Sakkara

Sakkara is the cemetery of the Old and New Kingdom and the step piramid dominates the site. This vast complex was built for only one man, King Djoser, the 2nd farao of the 3rd dynasty, by the architect Imhetep. North of the complex is the royal cemetery of the first and second dynasty, discovered and excavated by W Emery. The buildings are constructed with brick stone, unfortunately they are decaying fast over the last decades.
South-west of the piramid there are the remains of another royal complex, built by his successor Sermerchet, the 3rd farao of the 3rd dynasty.
Presently the step piramid is under restorations and in scaffolding. Unfortunately they are using mortar to secure the bricks and to my opinion that is wrong and a bad idea, ruining the ancient piramid.
