The site known as El Kokha contains 3 tombs, which are open to the public and gives you a clear view of the situation of the tombs here in this area. Thats how deep the tombs really are located. So in fact the modern Egyptians are living on top of the ancient. And of course the modern ones are there because of the ancient ones. Just dig a whole in your livingroom and your inside a tomb. Compared to the situation in 1900 there were just a dozen houses all over this place, which numbers grew in the hunderd over the years. But now Zahi Hawass of the Supreme council has decided that this area should be cleared and the people moved to a new village. Almost all are gone now and the egypthologists moved in! And guess what? They discovered 13 new tombs in 3 months.
Well, who was Djehutymes: His tomb dates back to the last part of the reign of Ramses 2 and accordingly to the walls of his tomb, he was s sem Priest and embalmer. This tomb is a very good example of a tomb of a middle class man. It shows a tomb on first sight colorfull, but when you look in detail, you see in fact rather cheap work, rapidly drawn and painted with a minimum of effort and inmagination.
He is accompanied by his two wives Nefertiry and Rennutet. The tomb is heavily damaged and situated under and behind TT296 and shares an entrance with that tomb.
Here in El Kokha you can visit 3 private tombs owned by Nefersekheru (TT296), Neferrenpet (TT249) and Djehutymes (TT295)..
