Ramses 1 (KV16)
Tomb of Ramses 1 is a rather small tomb and the work on the tomb was probably shortened, because of the very short reign of farao Ramses 1 and only the burial chamber was decorated. The already abbreviated plan was altered again with his death and what should become a corridor was turned into the burial chamber en hastly finished with scenes of the Book of Amduat. Very much alike that of his predecessor Horemhebit shows the grayish-blue tone. Some indicate that Horemheb was the founder of the 19th dynasty and that Paramesse, a general in the army of Horemheb was pointed to succeed him as farao. To my opinion Horemheb was the last farao of the 18th dynasty and by the lack of any heirs to the thrown, Paramsse was pointed as sucessor and founded the 19th dynasty as Ramses 1 and he was already an old man at the time of his apointment. Ramses 1 and his wife Sitre secured the Egyptian borders and internal policy and cleared this way the path for their son Seti 1. This rather dark tomb with vivid colors was discovered by Belzoni in 1817 and from that time also dates the rather rather simple restorations of the burial chamber ceiling with supporting wooden beams.
The mummy was only recently identified in a museum at the Niagra Falls and is now resting in the Luxor museum.
