Maya and Merit

The tomb of Maya is one of the very few directly connected to Tut-Ankh-Amen. Maya the owner was “fan bearer on the King’s right hand”, “Overseer of the treasury” and “Chief of the works in the necropolis”. He was the son of a magistrate named Iuy and his wife Weret. He had a half brother named Nahuher and two daughters: Mayamenti and Tjau-en-Maya.
He probably started his career during the reign of Amenhetep III.
The tomb first was discovered by Lepsius in 1843, then lost and finally rediscovered by a combined mission of the EES and the Dutch RMO. Now it is fully restored and since 2009 open to the public by the SCA.
