Siptah (KV47)

The tomb of Siptah is one of the last royal tombs opened to the public in 1995 by president Moubarrach. Although is was open since antiquity there were several attempts in the past to excavate and restore the tomb, but the poor quality of the bedrock and the lack of technical knowledge made the excavators quit. Spitah was the son of Seti 2 and a haremwife named Tiaa and reigned for about 6 years. Compaired to his rather short reign the tomb is rather large, yet unfinished, in particulair the burial chamber and the fourth and fifth corridor. In the burial chamber there is the red granite sarcophagus was empty, but his mummy was found in the cache KV35. Halfway you can find the proof of miscalculations by the designers and the collision with another tomb KV 32, which forced the workers to abandone their work.

Status: Open, glass, since June 2003 its no longer allowed to take pictures
